What we believe about building software
Fix causes, not symptoms
It is always faster to hide a problem than to solve it, and always more expensive later. We would rather spend an extra day understanding why something failed than add a check that stops it from being visible.
Fail loudly
Software that silently substitutes empty data for a real failure will mislead everyone who depends on it. We prefer systems that stop and say what went wrong.
Say when an idea is wrong
Talking each other out of the wrong approach is cheaper than building it. If we think a direction will not work, we argue about it before the code exists rather than after.
Write for the next person
Most of a system's life is spent being modified by someone who was not there when it was written. Explicit, boring code is worth more than clever code.
